ABOUT

Antihero Photography is run by Ro Johnstone (she/they), an Arizona based photographer and cosplayer. Ro brings years of experience on both sides of the camera to every shoot, and aims to build a fun and supportive work environment. Feel free to reach out any time, with even the wildest of ideas–if you can dream it, we can find a way!

Ro – Photographer

Ro is a 21 year old Canon photographer who specializes in stylized portraiture. She loves to get creative with lighting and posing, and will do whatever it takes to get “the shot.” Ro fell in love with both cosplay and photography in 2016, and has been working ever since. She got her photography start shooting theater performances, and has since shot various shows as well as concerts. Ro occasionally works with AZ Photo Meetups, a local group that hosts photography events for both photographers and models, and does occasional press coverage for conventions as well. Ro will proudly shoot any client that comes her way regardless of race, gender, body type, etc. There is enough discrimination in the world already, you won’t find any of that here.

Ro’s specialty is storytelling through photography: She aims to tell the story of every character, person, or group that crosses her camera’s path, conveying emotion and heart through lighting, composition, and setting. She loves doing big cinematic location shoots when possible (please, drag her places!) and loves being able to bring the ideas of her clients to life. She is passionate about every photo she takes, and shoots with the goal of seeing joy on the faces of her clients when their concept becomes reality. As a cosplayer, she understands how special the characters cosplayers choose can be to them, and wants to make sure every client feels seen and understood when working with her. Ro always gives her all when it comes to making ideas come to life exactly as her clients envisioned them.

Ash – Assistant

Ash (they/them) is Ro’s main shoot assistant, and is frequently seen at convention shoots as well as independent location work. They manage equipment, client property, and lighting during photoshoots — as well as occasionally stepping in behind the camera. They will also be every client’s personal hype man during the shoot, and are great at keeping the vibes good while also ensuring the security of belongings and the safety of everyone involved.
